Viewing forecasts

When you have provided a route plan, we normally schedule forecasts and route optimisations every six hours. When you log in, press the Forecasts button to see the latest forecast for your route plan:

Forecasts list with scheduled and completed forecasts

When a forecast is ready, you can press View to go to the forecast map page, or Download to immediately download our recommended route.

The Actions menu in the top-right has a couple of other options:

Actions menu on the forecasts page

  • Add route plan — upload a route plan (described in Uploading your first route plan). If your current route plan is concluded or out of date, use this to replace it.
  • Enter position — manually log a ship position. This generally isn’t required, as our Triton sensors and location services track the ship automatically. This button is available as a backup.

When you view a forecast, you’ll see a map, with a panel in the top-left corner.

The map has a few elements:

Your ship’s current location is shown by a red circle. Click on it to see how recent it is and the reported position.

The route we recommend you take over the next 24–36 hours is highlighted in orange. This will include any deviations worth making to save fuel or time.

Beneath it is the route plan you provided in grey. Waypoints from that route plan are shown as grey triangles ▲, connected with a dotted grey line. You can click on the waypoints to confirm their ordering or location.

Ocean currents are shown as animated particles, and near the ship the map is also shaded to show their strength. Hover or tap to see strength and direction.

The panel in the top corner has additional elements:

  • See when the forecast was issued
  • Two zoom buttons:
    • Zoom out to the entire route plan
    • + Zoom in to the recommended route (next 24–36 hours)
  • Download the recommended route in a number of file formats
  • Add a route plan directly from this page (same process as above). When you upload a plan here, you’ll be invited to return to the forecast list page to get the next forecast.

Sometimes you may need to request a forecast from a specific point on your route plan. In this case, you can use the Manual forecast button on the forecast list page, under the Actions menu:

Manual forecast option in the Actions menu

The manual forecast popup will ask you a few things:

  • From which waypoint do you want to start the forecast? (Required)
  • Optionally, from which waypoint do you want to end the forecast? (defaults to the end of the route plan)
  • When do you expect to arrive at the starting waypoint?
  • Optionally, do you intend to travel at a specific speed? (left blank, defaults to the speed we have set for your ship)

The route preview map will highlight the waypoints you have selected. When you’re ready, press Run manual forecast and a forecast will be immediately scheduled. Refresh the page a few minutes later and it will be in the forecast list.
